The foundation stone of the Rupnagar Press Club complex near Maharaja Ranjit Singh Bagh was laid by then Member of Paliament and now Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday, 18 January 2008.

While addressing a impressive gathering of media persons and other prominent personalities after the foundation stone laying ceremony,Sukhbir Badal said that media being the fourth pillar of the democracy, played an pivotal role in moulding public opinion on any issue.

He appreciated the role played by media in Punjab, which was more alert and active as compared to other states adding that all of us must give due respect to media.

S. Sukhbir Badal also appreciated the efforts of the Rupnagar District administration for arranging a very good piece of land for the Rupnagar Press Club.

S. Sukhbir Badal also said that Rupnagar district would be developed as an education hub.Besides this other development activities including four lanning of highways passing through the district are also being undertaken, he added.

He said that the state government would welcome the investors, who wanted to make investment in the state even if they belonged to neighbouring states like Haryana.

S. Sukhbir Badal also government had chalked out a plan for the strengthening of basic infrastructure like roads in the state on priority basis.

He also announced a grant of Rs. Five lakhs for the construction of Rupnagar Press Club complex and said that more funds would be made available in due course for this purpose.

Lauding the role of media in the society MP Shri. Avinash Rai Khanna said that three Ps (Press,Police and Politicians) should work for the welfare of the society sincerely.

Rupnagar Press Club president Shri. Bahadurjeet Singh thanked the state government, District Administration for arranging land for construction of Press Club complex adding that the complex would be one of the best Press Club buildings of the state.

Anandpur Sahib MLA Sant Ajit Singh, Morinda MLA S. Ujjagar Singh Badali, former minister Shri. Madan Mohan Mittal, Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner Shri. A.K.Sinha, SSP Shri. Praveen Kumar Sinha, senior Akali leader Dr.R.S.Parmar, Youth Akali Dal Spokeman S. Harsukhinder Singh Babbi Badal and S.Gurprtap Singh Khushalpur were among the prominent personalities present on the occasion.

The representatives of Press Clubs of Fatehgarh Sahib, Morinda, Chamkaur Sahib, S.A.S. Nagar, Nawanshahr, Anandpur Sahib, Nurpur Bedi, Nangal were also present on the occasion.
