Media should work for the betterment of the society by playing a constructive role in the redressal of the problems of the people, said Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal while addressing a function at Rupnagar Press Club today.
He said that being the fourth pillar of the democracy,media had an important role to play and they should not publish or broadcast such things which were harmful for the society.
Deputy Commissioner said that under the Article 19(1) of the Constitution, media had freedom of expression, but this freedom should not be excercised in a manner which was detrimental to society adding that there was need of responsible journalism by the media persons.
He assured every help to the Rupnagar Press Club in its various endevours.
Former Improvement Trust chairman Dr.R.S.Parmar,Rupnagar Press Club president Bahadurjeet Singh,advisor Satish Jagota,Secretary Rajinder Saini and Gurmeet Singh Khangura also spoke on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner also released the identity cards of the members of the Rupnagar Press Club on the occasion.
