Media persons should adapt to changes to be successful in journalism
Rupnagar, November 16Media persons should keep themselves updated to the latest developments and technology to be a successful in journalism.These views were expressed by the speakers during a seminar on 'Challenges before modern journalism' organised by Rupnagar Press Club to mark the National Press day here.
"It is paramount for the journalists to keep pace with the time and adapt to the changes to meet the requirement of modern day journalism",said Dr Harjinder Walia ,head of Department of journalism and mass communication , Punjabi University ,Patiala.
He said that a journalist would have to face problems if he did not have knowledge about new technology and internet.
Expressing concern over increasing trend of 'yesman' and 'advocacy' journalism ,Walia said that media persons should do meaningful journalism for the betterment of society.
Punjab deputy chief minister's advisor Jangveer Singh,who was chief guest on the occasion, also echoed similar views.
He said that media persons should do introspection and not be egoistic. He said that Punjab government was committed for the welfare of the media persons.
He said that government had made budgetary allocations for setting up press clubs in the state and buildings had been provided for the press clubs at Patiala and Bathinda adding that requisite funds would also be provided for the completion of building of Rupnagar press club.
Members of Rupnagar Press Club also submitted a memorandum to Jangveer Singh regarding the demands of the media persons.
Rupnagar Press Club president Bahadurjeet Singh,secretary Satish Jagota,vice president Satnam Singh Satti,Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy director Sukhjinder Singh,Netaji Model School director VP Saini,DAV School principal Naresh Gautam ,advocate Charanjit Singh Ghai,Bela College secretary Davinder Singh Jatana,Pr also spoke on the occasion.
Journalist from England Narpal Singh Shergill and District Shiromani Akali Dal(urban) president Paramjit Singh Makkar were also present on the occasion.
