Finance Minister failed to explain the purpose of Rs 50,000 crore loan- Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema

Rupnagar ,September 27

Former Punjab education minister and senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema has said that Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has failed to explain the purpose of borrowing Rs 50,000 crore by the Punjab government.

Addressing the media persons during the 'Meet the Press' programme organized by the Rupnagar Press Club here today, Dr. Cheema said that the Punjab was in deep financial mess. He said that the finance minister's explanation about paying the liabilities and interest of previous loans was not justified because the previous governments have also been paying theses liabilities and interests .H said that Aam Aadmi Party has promised to generate an additional income of Rs 36,000 crore by stopping the corruption and Rs 20,000 crore from sand minning. Where did the income that was promised to generate had gone?,he questioned.

Dr. Cheema said that huge amount of public money including Rs750 crores on advertising, security were being wasted by the Punjab government and this money could have been used to provide subsidy to any one section.

He said that the Punjab government claimed to have working hard to end corruption in punnjab, but the issue of Lokpal on which Aam Aadmi Party leaders had agitated in Delhi, had been put on back burner it had not set up Lokpal in Delhi nor in Punjab yet. On the contrary, some leaders of the party in Delhi are in jail on charges of corruption. He said that the Punjab government has failed to remove the scourge of unemployment and drugs in the state and to fulfill the expectations of the people and development in the state has come to a complete standstill.

He said that all the decisions of Punjab government are being made from Delhi which is very unfortunate for Punjab. He said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has failed to achieve anything for Punjab in the North Zonal Council meeting held at Amritsar. In response to a question Dr. Cheema said that the alliance between Aam Aadmi Party and Congress is an opportunistic alliance.

Regarding possibility of alliance with BJP he said that and at present Shiromani Akali Dal had alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party only. Rupnagar district Shiromani Akali Dal president Gurinder Singh Gogi,Former Rupnagar Municipal Council president Paramjit Singh Makkar, former Municipal Councillor Gurmukh Singh Saini, advocate Rajiv Sharma,Baljinder Singh Mithu,Mohan Singh Mohammadipur and Swaran Singh Bahadurpur were also present on the occasion.
