Welcome to Rupnagar Press Club

Rupnagar Press Club, earlier known as Ropar Press Club, was formed in the year 2005 with an aim to bring all the media persons of the historic and ancient district headquarter town of Rupnagar and its surrounding areas on one platform for media related activities.

The Club was started with nine members and was got registered under Registration of Societies Act,1860 vide Registration number 1602 Dated 28-4-2005.Today it has 41 regular members belonging various print and electronic media organization.Besides,there are two associate members and ten honourary members, who are eminent personalities of Rupnagar area.The Executive Committee of the club is elected democratically every two years .

The constant efforts of the Club to have a building to carry on its activities effectively yielded results when the then Member of Parliament . Sukhbir Singh Badal laid the foundation stone of the Press Club Complex near Maharaja Ranjit Singh Bagh Rupnagar in January 2008.

The building has been completed now and club activities are taking place in it in routine manner including holding of seminars,press conferences and press meets with various personalities and celebrations of various days relating to press.

The club is also making efforts for affiliation with various other press clubs of the region and so far it has been affiliated with the Punjab Press Club Jalandhar. as well as Chandigarh Press Club.

The Club is committed to follow the ethics of journalism and shun yellow journalism.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVS

1 To interact and socialize with the members of media i.e. Journalists including photographers working for Newspapers, TV channels and related fields.
2 To organize meetings, seminars and debates with related persons of media on issues concerning Journalism.
3 To entertain the members of media and their families, their relatives and friends and guests on social gatherings and otherwise.
4 To encourage healthy practices among the members of press and to impart knowledge of ethics of profession to trainee journalists.
5 To co-ordinate with social, government and non-government organizations for welfare of society in general and members of press in particular.
6 To hold press conferences/meetings with public personalities, political parties, business establishments including ministers, officers, defence services, police etc.
7 To co-ordinate with other state, national and international press clubs, general club associations and institutes related with journalism for programmes of common interests.
8 To encourage upcoming and other journalists by giving them suitable awards and pursuing with state/centre governments for said purpose.
9 To generate funds through souvenirs, charitable shows, donation by government authorities, public men, social and political organizations etc.in accordance with government laws and constitution of Press Club, for development of club and welfare of its members including provisions of legal aid, disablement and death benefit of the died member.
10 To start charitable activities to help needy sections of society and highlight public grievances at appropriate platform.
11 To build a permanent premise for Rupnagar Press Club to run its activities stated herein.
12 To discourage and fight out yellow journalism, misuse of name of Press by vested interest and safeguard freedom of the press.
